The Daniel and Marcia Glosser Memorial Gardens is a new recreational and conservation area in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  The 7.5 acre area nestled between the Stonycreek river, the Jim Mayer Riverwalk trail, and the existing Sandyvale park will be transformed from an industrial site to one that can be admired and enjoyed by the public for generations to come.

Daniel Glosser grew up a few blocks away on Oak Street. He, along with his father, uncles and grandparents ran the family business, M. Glosser & Sons, from this very location.  The area holds notable historical significance.  The river retaining walls, constructed in the late 1930’s, mark the first major river project undertaken by the Army Corps of Engineers as part of FDR’s New Deal.  A feeder canal to the Pennsylvania Canal and Portage railroad system in the 19th century ran through this property and the Jim Mayer Riverwalk trail has already been designated as part of the September 11th National Memorial Trail connecting the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville to the September 11th memorial at the World Trade Center.

The historical significance and great location, along with the rehabilitation of this land will greatly improve our community for all residents and visitors.  This marks a major step in the ongoing revitalization of Johnstown.
